Every year, we see new articles that pop up around January, laying out the next year’s wedding trends. Some are based on insider predictions, some on fashion shows, and some on pure speculation – but what do they actually mean for the couple trying to plan a wedding?

The answer is fairly simple: whatever you want them to mean. There are some long-staying trends, like white wedding dresses or matching bridesmaids, that are simply an indelible part of what we think weddings should be. Some trends, however, should be entirely a matter of personal preference. What kind of flowers you want to have, what wedding favors to use…all of these are up to you and whatever you like best.

Where wedding trends can be helpful, however, is to give you ideas. When you look at a piece about this year’s trends, don’t feel pressured to keep up – just think of them as catalouges in which other people have laid out fun new ideas for you to look through!
