Having a rehearsal dinner before the Big Day is an excellent idea – especially if you want to be 100% certain that everything will be flawless on the wedding day. How do you assemble a rehearsal dinner though? Here are some tips to keep in mind:
• You do not have to invite everyone at the rehearsal dinner. Generally speaking, you should invite the following: the Maid of Honor, the Best Man, the bridesmaids, the groomsmen, the parents (and grandparents if you want to), the Flower Girl and the Ring Bearer (and their parents if they are very young). Also, it is polite to invite the wedding officiant as well (although he/she will most likely not attend the rehearsal dinner). Furthermore, if you have out-of-town guests who will be in town for the rehearsal dinner, you should invite them too.
• You do not have to plan your rehearsal dinner at the same venue as your wedding. In general, rehearsal dinners are a bit less formal than the actual wedding so choosing a location will depend on how formal your wedding is. For instance, if you will have your wedding reception in a very elegant ball room, you can invite your rehearsal dinner guests at an elegant restaurant. However, keep in mind that it has become quite common to keep the rehearsal dinner very informal too (some couples even choose to have theirs over barbecue and drinks as well).
• You do not have to wear white. Of course, you can wear white if you want to – but it doesn’t have to be a very elegant dress. In general, a cocktail dress will be more than acceptable (and it can be in whatever color you want it to be).
• Speeches are among the most important moments you will have to rehearse. Also, mark the moment of your entrance, the moment of your exit, the moment of the first dance, the moment of the bouquet/garter toss (if you choose to have it) and all the other important moments at the reception too.
